CALLS TO ACTION

AIA Potomac Valley Chapter has been serving architects and public since 1955. I would like to take this opportunity to reach out to the community and find more ways to improve and serve even better.

Architect members:
Please drop by an event at our chapter house, the award-winning LEAFHouse, attend a Munch and Learn, or a meeting of the Small Practice Group or the Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN), and share your thoughts. Your every thought, idea, or comment is priceless for us.

To those members who cannot be with us in person due to schedule/location, we are only a few clicks away on your smartphone or computer, any time, any day. We would love for our members from remote locations, from western Maryland all the way to southern Charles county, to be in touch and let us know how we can serve better.

Please check out our newly updated website at aiapv.org. There you will see latest news, calendar and upcoming events plus many other resources. Let us know what you think.  Would you advise to improve or change anything?  We would love to hear from you.

Consider serving on board of directors or committees.  Let us know if you wish to nominate anyone. Let us know if you volunteer with any organization, serve on committees, boards, etc. Inspire us and encourage more of our members to do good with AIA, individually or as a group.

Let us know is we can find ways to work with suppliers, insurance agencies, software and hardware vendors, to arrange continuing education presentations, member group discounts, etc. Check out our growing list of sponsors, let us know if you can think of any possible sponsors both for the chapter and Potomac Valley Architecture Foundation, a 501(c)(3) educational arm of the chapter.

Share your experience and thoughts on dealing with zoning, planning, building code, permitting, etc. Let us know how we can serve as liaison between our members, allied professionals and government agencies.

And do plan to join us at the annual Design Awards Celebration on Thursday, October 19, at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

Associates-new graduates:
The profession needs you. Join other associate members, share experience and resources in working towards professional licensure. Registered architect members would be more than honored to assist you in any way. The upcoming Emerging Professionals Spring Happy Hour is a great place to start!

Allied professionals:
Engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, builders, contractors - we need you to join forces with us. Please consider becoming allied members of AIA Potomac Valley Chapter. Update our members with current trends.  Sponsor/provide continuing educational events featuring products or services in your expertise. Please see our web site for sponsorship and partnership opportunities. Be sure to join us at Golf Outing on Friday, May 12 - registration is coming soon. Invite your friends and colleagues. Those who don’t play golf can still come for lunch and networking.

We look forward to more participation from all of you in our community in 2017.

Tom Nyein, AIA
2017 Treasurer
