Community Design Volunteers Needed This Fall!
Fall is not only for back-to-school planning. Make a "give-back to the community plan" by volunteering for a project with the Neighborhood Design Center. This fall, NDC has four exciting projects kicking off in Prince George's County, with opportunities for architects, landscape architects, community garden enthusiasts, builders, makers, and so many more! Iverson Mall Placemaking
What happens when the property manager of a mall, the pastor of a local church, and the leader of a nonprofit focused on growing food and healing people get together to transform an underutilized parking lot? Magic, that’s what. NDC has been invited to provide designs for a community garden, a gathering space, and redressing an existing parking structure. This project will include a youth engagement and design component as well as opportunities to consider what can be co-built on site.
The Training Source
A full 20 years of job training has taken place at the Training Source, Inc. since NDC volunteers first worked their magic. Join the team and help them space plan for the next 25 years of amazing work. This project needs interior space planning, interior design, and facade improvements.
Joe's Movement Emporium
Can you help make the outside of Joe’s as rich and energetic as what happens inside? Since 1995, Joe’s Movement Emporium has been home to dancers, educators, yoga instructors, actors and performers from all over the country. This project will look at the facade, entry sequence, landscaping, and parking lot design of Joe’s. We are seeking a team of 4-6.
Mount Rainier Bike Coop
The Mount Rainier Bike Coop encourages people of all to ride and maintain bicycles by providing hands on help and access to tools and shop space. The interior is in the process of being improved, but there’s more opportunity for improvement outside! Join us to redesign the site and address phase 2 of the building.
