Meet GPI

MEET GPI

GPI (Greenman-Pedersen, Inc.) has been providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural engineering services in Maryland for over 45 years! Our Rockville, MD office provides creative and sustainable design for the renovation and new construction of buildings. We collaborate with architects and interior designers to create solutions for clients that include private companies, government agencies, educational facilities, healthcare facilities, and mission critical facilities all over the United States. In addition to engineering design, we also provide building evaluations and surveys, commissioning, ENERGY STAR certification, energy modeling, peer review, and COVID mitigation.

GPI was established in 1966 and has grown into a firm ranked among Engineering New Record’s top 100 national design firms. We have also been named a Consulting-Specifying Engineer MEP Giant and are rated in the Washington Business Journal’s Top 25 Engineering Companies. What makes working with GPI’s local offices different from working with other local engineering firms is that we have a strong corporate backbone and the resources of a national firm but we retain the entrepreneurial spirit of a local firm. Our corporate structure allows our offices to conduct day-to-day operations and provide professional services with the sense of detail and communication typical of working with a small firm. We take pride in being a communicative and contributing partner on the projects we work on. We are able to provide our best service when we are brought in early on projects because we can provide valuable insight to assist in financial savings. Understanding our clients’ priorities early allows us to be a more effective part of the design team.

GPI is very proud that our Rockville office achieved LEED Platinum status in 2013, the first engineering firm in the state of Maryland to achieve the highest level of LEED certification. This clearly demonstrates our commitment to sustainability. We have many LEED AP’s and WELL AP’s on staff. We have an AIA registered program (HSW) titled ‘LEED v4 Engineering & Architectural Integrated Design’ which presents the benefits of coordinating with the project team and owner’s representatives early in a project’s lifecycle, and how preemptive measures can improve comfort levels, energy consumption, and the overall health of occupants in a space.

In addition to the LEED v4 program, we have many other presentations registered with AIA and have presented over 250 programs since 2006. Our most recent program is titled ‘Improving Indoor Air Quality Including Emerging Technologies’. Although the pandemic is driving much of the current action around healthy building initiatives, there are, and always have been, other important reasons to improve indoor air quality in the workplace. Since last March, we have a team dedicated to keeping up with current research on COVID. Our Indoor Air Quality program shares the important information our team has learned. We believe the more our friends in the industry know about engineering, the more effective they are at working with their clients and the better the final project.
