Join us on Sunday, November 18th in the Great Hall of the National Building Museum to watch the build-out of CANstruction. Cheer on the team of UMD AIAS students being mentored by AIAPV architects, in our first-ever joint participation in CANstruction. Click here to contribute to the Potomac Valley Architecture Foundation for the costs of the build online!

This year's overall competition theme is "CAN't Stop the Beet." Our team's interpretation takes the form of "Beat the Heat," the heroic effort of Mr. Beet the Heat and Senor Remolacha to triumph over Doc CO2, the evil mastermind of climate change. 

CANstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. It is a creative design-build competition where teams from architecture and design firms use their skills to build sculptures out of cans of food. The nutritious shelf-stable food is donated to the Capital Area Food Bank for distribution to those in need after the event. 

We especially encourage visitors to stop by the National Building Museum on Friday, November 23 (Black Friday) to view the sculptures and vote for their favorite one by bringing a canned good donation. Please join us in this Black Friday activity as an alternative to the excesses of shopping on the day after Thanksgiving.
