Opening lecture by Larysa Kurylas, design architect and sculptor, followed by a reception
University of Maryland alumna Larysa Kurylas' Holodomor Memorial in Washington, D.C., is a tribute to the victims of the man-made famine engineered by Stalin's regime in Soviet Ukraine in 1932-1933. In addition to documenting the process of design and fabrication of this memorial, this exhibit also poses larger questions about how we commemorate loss, the role memorials play in our society, the significance of setting aside space in Washington, DC, and the tragic impact that manipulating the truth can have. The exhibit will be on view through July 2020.
