Understanding BEPS

On January 1, 2021, the DC government established the first set of Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) to help meet its green building and climate goals. This presentation outlines the key components and compliance pathways of the BEPS, as well as the resulting challenges and opportunities that will impact the design industry and building owners.

Prerequisite Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of building systems and energy codes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the definition, requirements, penalties, and other components of the DC Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) program.
  2. Understand the four (4) pathways to BEPS compliance.
  3. Understand the financial and energy impacts of BEPS on building owners.
  4. Understand the strategies and next steps for implementation to achieve the BEPS program goals.
