Bird-Friendly Glass Solutions: Understanding the Fundamentals of Safe Design

Buildings interact with the natural environment in many ways. Architectural design encourages such interaction through the use of glass and glazing by blurring the lines between inside and outside. While we humans can use environmental cues to identify glass as a barrier, there is growing realization that birds cannot. More than one billion birds die each year due to collisions with glass. The solution is to design buildings that are bird friendly in addition to being people and environmentally friendly.
This course is intended to provide the basis for a better understanding of how to recognize issues affecting the bird population while learning about best practices and design fundamentals for smarter, safer buildings.
