Understanding "Wood Aesthetic" Cladding and Soffit Technologies

The look of "wood" in a building design provides warmth that cannot be achieved by masonry, glass and metals. Natural wood is a traditional option, but newer composite and synthetic technologies replicate the look of natural wood with lower maintenance and better life cycle performance. This course provides an in-depth overview into eight (8) wood and wood aesthetic technologies.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand the typical current market “Wood Aesthetic” technologies.
  2. Discuss the "core" material for each technology and manufacturing related to sustainability.
  3. Understand the sustainable feature and life cycle benefits for each technology based on the following criteria: 
    - Color Retention 
    - Maintenance 
    - Warranty
    - Budgetary Information
  4. Select the best technology selection.
