Designing and Building with Single Skin Metal Wall Panels

Explore the history of single skin metal wall panels and their advancements into modern day architectural wall cladding systems. Design professionals will learn the advantages of building with eco-conscious practices and how they can help to reduce the construction industry’s environmental footprint. The course will explain the advantages of building with wall systems that provide performance and sustainability as well as how modern paint finishes will protect and enhance a structure. The course will round out with a look into the importance of proper detailing and assemblies with a focus on how incorrect design and construction can lead to structural damage, mildew and mold issues, and the impact these conditions can have on building’s inhabitants.

Learning objectives:

  1. Examine the history of Single-Skin Metal Wall Claddings and explore modern-day profiles, substrates, and finishes.
  2. Introduce the advantage of eco-conscious materials and the benefits of using recyclable building materials, green building practices, and their impact on our environment.
  3. An explanation of Urban Heat Islands and how design professionals can better understand how paint finishes can influence senses as well as our environment.
  4. Identify proper detailing and installation methods for wall panels and display how improper applications can affect a building's structural integrity and inhabitant’s well-being.
