Risk Mitigation for the Building Envelope

This presentation for Architects and Developers explores proactive risk mitigation strategies for building envelope design throughout both the design and construction administration phases. The course examines inherent risks associated with improper detailing, material selection, coordination failures, and poor construction practices that can lead to water and air infiltration, condensation, structural deterioration, energy inefficiency and long term durability concerns.

Participants will gain an understanding of how thoughtful design, quality assurance processes, and building envelope testing can identify vulnerabilities early, reduce liability, and improve overall building performance. The session also emphasizes the critical role of commissioning, field-testing, and performance verification in ensuring the building envelope meets intended safety, durability, and operational standards.

  2. Discuss strategies and best practices for mitigating building envelope risks through coordinated design approaches, quality assurance measures, and effective construction administration.
  3. Understand the role of building Envelope Commissioning in verifying performance, identifying vulnerabilities early and ensuring compliance with project performance and durability goals.
  4. Develop a general understanding of building envelope testing methods and performance verification processes used to assess air, moisture, thermal, and structural integrity in support of long-term building performance.
